  • January 1, 1848 – Savitribai Phule She started the first girl’s school in Pune.
  • June 18, 1858 – Rani Lakshmibai She died fighting the British troops in Gwalior, with her son on the back.
  • January 26, 1950 – Suffrage Rights Universal suffrage rights were granted to all Indians above 21 years, which later became 18 years.
  • January 19, 1966 – Indira Gandhi She became the first Indian woman prime minister.
  • April 11, 1983 – Bhanu Athaiya She became the first Indian woman to win an Academy Award.
